The Nigerian Army has arrested four suspected members of the Lakurawa terrorist group accused of terrorising communities in Sokoto State and recovered six cows, two mobile phones and N165,000 in cash from them.
As gathered, the suspects were attempting to sell cattle believed to have been rustled when troops apprehended them at Darusa village market in Sokoto State on Thursday afternoon.
A military source familiar with the operation said the arrests followed credible intelligence that enabled troops to track the suspects to the market.
The operation was carried out by troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, as part of ongoing efforts to disrupt terrorist and criminal activities in the area.
“The arrests were intelligence-driven, and the suspects were taken into custody without incident,” the source said on Friday.
The source added that the recovered cattle and other items had been taken into military custody as investigations continued.
The suspects are expected to undergo further investigation to establish their alleged links to Lakurawa and determine whether they were involved in other attacks or cattle-rustling activities affecting communities in the state.
The latest arrests are part of ongoing military operations aimed at curbing insecurity and disrupting criminal networks operating across communities in Sokoto State.
