Akindayomi: RCCG founder’s daughter addresses claims of criticising Adeboye, legacy debate
Mrs. Titilayo Akindayomi-Adewale, daughter of the founder of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pa Josiah Akindayomi, has denied reports claiming she criticised the church’s General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, or accused senior pastors of neglecting her father’s legacy.
In a statement posted on her official Facebook page on Monday, Akindayomi-Adewale described the reports as false, misleading and deliberately crafted to stir controversy within the church.
She urged members of the public and the Christian community to disregard the claims, insisting that the statements attributed to her neither originated from her nor reflected her beliefs about the RCCG, its leadership or her late father’s legacy.
Denies criticising Adeboye
Akindayomi-Adewale said she never accused senior pastors of failing to recognise her father as the founder of the RCCG and did not call for any campaign aimed at preserving his legacy through monuments or public recognition.
According to her, the viral reports completely distorted her position and created an impression that she was at odds with the church’s leadership.
She maintained that she had not, either directly or indirectly, made the comments being circulated across social media and other online platforms.
The RCCG founder’s daughter stressed that she remained committed to promoting peace and unity within the church rather than engaging in conversations capable of creating unnecessary divisions.
Father’s greatest legacy was lives transformed
Explaining her father’s philosophy, Akindayomi-Adewale said Pa Josiah Akindayomi devoted his life to raising people spiritually rather than seeking personal recognition or earthly honour.
She stated that the late cleric never measured success by buildings, monuments or material possessions but by the lives transformed through the gospel.
“For the record, Baba’s image or lack thereof on any edifice on earth is nothing compared to making Heaven and his face being recognized there,” she wrote.
According to her, suggesting that her father desired his image or name to be permanently displayed on buildings would contradict the values he upheld throughout his ministry.
She recalled that the RCCG founder was reluctant to own a personal residence because he placed little importance on material acquisitions, choosing instead to invest his time and energy in mentoring believers and spreading the Christian faith.
“My father consistently believed in building people rather than merely constructing buildings. He never believed in acquiring wealth or earthly possessions,” she added.
Warns against misinformation
Akindayomi-Adewale expressed concern over what she described as a growing trend of misinformation designed to provoke unnecessary debates and create tension within the church.
She argued that the reports were not intended to honour her father or contribute positively to discussions about his legacy but were aimed at distracting members from the church’s spiritual mission.
“In my opinion, this report and similar ones are not about me, my father, or even the leadership of the RCCG. Instead, they are intended to create unnecessary arguments and division. Their purpose is to divert attention from the divine work currently being carried out and sow discord among us,” she said.
She urged members of the public to verify information before sharing it, warning that false reports could damage relationships, undermine trust and fuel avoidable controversies within religious organisations.
The cleric’s daughter also cautioned those responsible for circulating the claims to desist from what she described as mischievous acts of misinformation capable of misleading unsuspecting readers.
Reaffirms support for RCCG leadership
Despite the controversy, Akindayomi-Adewale reaffirmed her confidence in the leadership of Pastor Adeboye, expressing gratitude for his stewardship of the church since succeeding her late father.
She prayed for God’s continued wisdom, strength and protection for Adeboye, his family and other leaders of the RCCG as they continue to oversee the church’s activities around the world.
She further called on members to remain united and focused on the church’s mission of evangelism and discipleship rather than allowing misleading reports to distract them.
According to her, the most meaningful way to preserve the memory of Pa Josiah Akindayomi is by living according to the Christian values he preached and remaining committed to advancing the work of God.
She equally urged believers to reject divisive narratives and continue supporting the church’s leadership, insisting that unity and faithfulness remain the greatest tribute to the enduring legacy of the RCCG founder.
