The Accord Party’s House of Representatives candidate for Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency in Osun State and spokesperson for Governor Ademola Adeleke’s Imole Campaign Council, Pelumi Olajengbesi, has threatened to institute a N10 billion defamation suit against Senator Francis Fadahunsi over alleged statements linking him to cult groups and political thuggery.
Olajengbesi, through his lawyers at Law Corridor, gave Fadahunsi 24 hours to retract the statements and issue an unreserved public apology, failing which legal proceedings would be commenced against him.
The demand was contained in a letter dated August 12, 2026, and addressed to Fadahunsi at the National Assembly in Abuja.
The lawyers said the action followed comments allegedly made by Fadahunsi during a live interview on Viable TV on July 2 and his appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on August 11.
During the July interview, the lawyers said Fadahunsi referred to Olajengbesi as someone who was “not even from the same Ijebu-Jesha” and “from somewhere in Ogun State”, while also accusing him of “using thugs, Eiye and Aye”.
The lawyers argued that the remarks suggested that Olajengbesi sponsors, associates with or deploys members of the Eiye and Aye cult groups for political activities.
They also cited comments allegedly made by Fadahunsi during his Politics Today appearance, where he said: “Rogba is an Eiye man sponsored by Barrister Olajengbesi terrorising the whole … my own territory up and down through all these Eiye and Aye.”
According to the lawyers on Wednesday, the statement falsely suggested that Olajengbesi sponsors, finances or supports cultists and persons involved in violence and terror.
They said the allegations were particularly damaging because Olajengbesi is a legal practitioner, political candidate and spokesperson for the Imole Campaign Council.
The lawyers said their client “emphatically denies these allegations”, describing them as false, defamatory and injurious to his personal, professional and political reputation.
They added that Olajengbesi had “no affiliation whatsoever with the Eiye, Aye or any other cult group” and had never sponsored, financed or supported any cult group or authorised anyone to attack or intimidate members of the public on his behalf.
The lawyers argued that the statements went beyond permissible political criticism because they allegedly attributed criminal conduct to their client and could damage his professional standing and political career.
They consequently demanded that Fadahunsi immediately stop making or circulating the allegations, retract the statements made during the two television appearances and issue a public apology through the same media platforms.
They also demanded a written undertaking that Fadahunsi would not repeat or republish the allegations.
“Take notice that if you fail, neglect or refuse to comply fully with the above demands within Twenty-Four (24) Hours of receipt of this letter, our firm has our Client’s firm and unequivocal instructions to commence legal proceedings against you before a Court of competent jurisdiction without further notice or correspondence to you,” the lawyers warned.
If the matter proceeds to court, they said Olajengbesi would seek, among other reliefs, an order declaring the statements false and defamatory, an injunction preventing Fadahunsi from repeating similar allegations and N10 billion in general and aggravated damages.
The lawyers also demanded payment of the costs of the proposed legal action and other reliefs the court may deem appropriate.
The development comes amid heightened political tension in Osun ahead of Saturday’s governorship election, with Fadahunsi also recently invited by the Osun State Police Command over alleged inflammatory remarks concerning Accord Party members.
