GOV. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara has welcomed the deployment of a new Five Battalions of the Nigerian Army to the state, describing it as a significant boost to security.
AbdulRazaq stated this on Tuesday while speaking with journalists shortly before the deployment of the troops from the 9th Division, Sobi Barracks, Ilorin, to the newly established battalion bases in Kwara.
He said the state government would support the deployment and ensure a smooth implementation of the process.

“I want to welcome the troops to Ilorin and appreciate what they are doing.
“I also appreciate the Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces, President Bola Tinubu for this deployment.
“The state has a buy-in in this, and we will be part of the process of the deployment. We will encourage them and make sure everything sails through smoothly,” he said.
The governor urged the troops to remain disciplined and committed to their duties, noting that their deployment was part of efforts to strengthen internal security.
“I encourage them to build confidence and know that this is a call to duty. This is internal security, which is beyond normal conventional duty.
“The military is trained to adapt, and we believe they will adapt and do their duty as required,” he added.
AbdulRazaq described the establishment of new military formations in the state as significant, noting that Kwara now had five new battalions in Kaiama, Patigi, Baruten, Omu-Aran and Ilemona local government areas while the brigade remained in the state.
He also described the establishment of the 9th Division of the Nigerian Army in the state as a major development that would enhance security.
“This is a major game changer; we did not think that would happen. Not only do we have the 9th Division, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) has been appointed and is already on ground.
“So, everything is set to go. Kwara is going to be protected completely by the military, and we appreciate the deployment,” the governor said.
On the welfare package provided for the troops, AbdulRazaq said the gesture was aimed at boosting their morale.
He, however, said the more significant development was the Federal Government’s approval of improved salaries and welfare packages for military personnel.
“Obviously, the purpose of the welfare package is to boost their morale, but the most significant thing is the recent approval by the President Tinubu for the military in increasing their salaries and welfare package.
“That is the major thing. What we have done here is just a minor thing,” he said.
