2027 polls: Why I’ve stepped down for Tinubu – Accord Party’s Imumolen

…Insists ‘president has proved he has capacity to emancipate Nigeria’

Accord Party’s presidential candidate, Prof. Christopher Imumolen, has shed more light on why he quit the presidential race to support the All Progressives Congress APC presidential candidate President Bola Tinubu.

Addressing the press in Ikeja, Lagos, on Friday, he gave 10 reasons he made that decision, noting that he was convinced that President Tinubu meant well for the country.

He said further that the policies he introduced were meant to put the country in a better position, “so he should be given all the support he needs to get his second term.”

“This decision was not borne out of personal interest, but from a deep conviction that the unity, stability, and continued progress of Nigeria must take precedence over personal political ambition,” he said.

He noted that Tinubu was committed to the unity of the country and should be supported to achieve that objective.

According to him, “If there is one man that can unite Nigeria, we have to give it to him. Tinubu has proved that he has the capacity to emancipate Nigeria.”

Prof. Imumolen said though there were many presidential candidates in the race, he doubted their capacity to come up with good policies to turn the country around as “President Tinubu is doing.”

He also admitted that some of the policies introduced by the Tinubu administration might include temporary hardship, but he was sure there would be an improvement in the future.

“In Nigeria’s democratic history, President Tinubu has consistently displayed extraordinary political wisdom, foresight, and nation-building capacity that have produced transformational leaders across the country.

“His commitment to sustaining progressive governance through purposeful leadership, institutional reforms, and continuity provides confidence in Nigeria’s long-term growth and stability.

“President Tinubu has shown remarkable ability to identify capable individuals, build consensus, promote national unity, and make difficult decisions in the best interest of the nation,” he said.

Imumolen also said his decision to step down for the president was not just made solely by him, adding that it was endorsed by the leadership of the party.

He said, “Our decision to withdraw our presidential candidature and support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a deliberate sacrifice made in the interest of Nigeria. History will always remember those who placed national progress above personal ambition.”
