Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has celebrated his daughter, Jazmyne, following her graduation with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree with Upper Second-Class Honours from the University of Southampton in the United Kingdom.
Wike announced the achievement in a post on his X account, where he expressed pride in his daughter’s accomplishment and thanked family friends and political associates who attended the graduation ceremony. Photographs shared online showed the minister, his wife, Justice Eberechi Wike, and several prominent political figures posing with the graduate after the ceremony.
“I celebrate and rejoice with my daughter, Jazmyne, who yesterday, earned a Bachelor of Laws (Upper Second-Class Honours) degree from the University of Southampton, United Kingdom,” Wike wrote.
He added: “I and my darling wife are so elated to have witnessed that moment of joy of parenthood. Jazmyne, thank you for making us proud.”
The minister also acknowledged those who attended the graduation ceremony despite what he described as their busy schedules.
“I thank my friend and brother, His Excellency, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, the BoT Chairman of our party, the PDP, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, and others who, attended the graduation ceremony, not-minding their busy schedule. You will always receive happiness from your children.”
The graduation comes months after another of Wike’s children completed postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom, with members of his immediate family having attended higher institutions in the country in recent years.
Following Wike’s latest post, social media users resurfaced an old video in which the former Rivers State governor questioned the need for Nigerians to study courses such as Law, English and Economics abroad, arguing that Nigerian universities had strong faculties in those disciplines.
In the video, Wike had said: “Some of these courses, you don’t need to send them abroad. What we have said in our own case is to say listen, why do you have to send somebody who wants to read English abroad? Why do I want to send somebody who wants to study Economics overseas? Why do I want to send somebody who wants to read Law overseas? When you know we have very good faculties in these areas in Nigerian universities.”
The resurfaced remarks have generated online debate, with some commentators contrasting the minister’s earlier position with his family’s educational choices abroad, while others congratulated Jazmyne on her academic achievement.
