The Managing Director of the Kaduna State Roads Agency (KADRA), Dr. Abdullahi Muhammad Baba, has explained that the agency’s ongoing inspection of road projects across Kaduna state was aimed at ensuring contractors adhere strictly to approved specifications, maintain quality standards and deliver projects on schedule.
Speaking during an inspection of ongoing road construction projects in Kaduna South and Romi, Dr. Baba said the exercise forms part of KADRA’s routine quality assurance measures to guarantee durable infrastructure for residents.
According to him, the inspection covered the road from Zenith Bank on Old Kachia Road to the Western Bypass at Nasarawa/Flour Mills, being executed by CCCC, where stone base works have been completed ahead of the priming stage.
He also inspected the Pan Drive dualisation project from the Western Bypass through Television Garage to Sabon Tasha, where Mothercat Nigeria Limited is carrying out drainage and other hydraulic works before major earthworks commence.
The team further visited the Sabon Tasha–Juji Road linking College Road to the Eastern Bypass, where JPatel and Sons Nigeria Limited has completed stone base on several sections while hydraulic structures are at advanced stages.
At the Romi-Karika township roads project, asphalt laying has commenced on some of the internal roads, with contractors taking advantage of favourable weather conditions to sustain progress.
Dr. Baba said Governor Uba Sani’s administration is executing about 150 road projects covering approximately 1,355 kilometres across the state’s 23 local government areas, with several expected to be completed before the end of the rainy season.
He expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work, noting that KADRA had conducted comprehensive quality assurance tests, including in-situ density, concrete, steel reinforcement and coring tests, all of which produced satisfactory results.
“The purpose of these inspections is to ensure every contractor complies with specifications and that the roads meet the required standards of durability and safety,” he said.
Residents of the benefiting communities commended the state government for the ongoing projects, saying the roads would improve transportation, ease the movement of goods and boost economic activities.
They also expressed optimism that the projects would address years of poor road infrastructure and enhance the socio-economic development of their communities.
