The Delta State Police Command has arrested a popular Asaba-based content creator, Ifeanyi Ogbonna, popularly known as “Odogwu of Asaba,” over allegations that he raped a 20-year-old woman who later died after allegedly consuming a toxic substance.
The command confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe.
According to the police, the deceased, identified as Favour Agbro from Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, travelled to Asaba on June 1, 2026, after the suspect allegedly promised to train her on how to monetise her TikTok and Facebook accounts through content creation.
Police said that upon her arrival, the suspect allegedly took her to a hotel, where he raped and physically assaulted her.
“Upon her arrival in Asaba, the suspect allegedly took her to a hotel, where he allegedly raped her and subjected her to physical violence. She later returned home, visibly distressed and disclosed the incident to her parents,” the statement read.
The command further disclosed that the young woman later recorded a video in which she narrated her alleged ordeal and the emotional trauma she experienced following the incident.
According to the police, she subsequently ingested a toxic substance and later died despite efforts to save her.
Human rights activist Israel Joe had earlier drawn public attention to the case through a Facebook post, alleging that the deceased had informed the suspect before travelling that she was a virgin and had no interest in any romantic relationship.
According to Joe, the suspect assured her that he would only provide training on content creation and social media monetisation.

He further alleged that the woman contacted her twin sister and mother shortly after the incident, informing them of the alleged assault before returning home.
Following a petition submitted to the Delta State Police Command, Commissioner of Police Olufemi Abaniwonda directed the Area Command in Effurun to launch an immediate investigation into the allegations.
Edafe said the investigation led to the arrest of the suspect, who has since made statements to investigators while further inquiries continue.
“During the preliminary investigation, the suspect reportedly made useful statements to the police, while further investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the case,” the police spokesperson stated.
The Commissioner of Police assured the deceased’s family and members of the public that the matter would be thoroughly investigated and that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law.
Meanwhile, a video circulating on social media purportedly shows the suspect expressing remorse over the incident. In the clip, he is heard saying, “This is a very terrible mistake. I’m ready to give everything.”
However, the circumstances under which the video was recorded and the context of the statement have not been independently verified by the police, and the investigation remains ongoing.
The police urged members of the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information while the investigation continues.
