Paul University, Awka, has suspended a member of its academic staff, Ven. Cornelius C. Eze, following allegations of serious misconduct, while investigations by the institution and security agencies continue.
The university announced that the Anglican priest, who serves as a Practical Biology Technologist in the Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences, has been placed on indefinite suspension pending the outcome of its internal disciplinary process and investigations by relevant law enforcement authorities.
According to a statement dated July 17, 2026, and signed by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Rev. Godisplan Onukwufor, management became aware of the allegations on July 14 and immediately intervened.
The institution said security agencies were invited to handle the matter after tensions reportedly arose among students, a move it said was necessary to prevent a breakdown of law and order on campus.
University authorities explained that the suspension is an administrative measure and should not be interpreted as a determination of guilt while investigations remain ongoing.
Meanwhile, a video circulating on social media has attracted widespread attention. The footage, whose authenticity has not been independently verified, allegedly shows the suspended staff member wearing only boxer shorts and leaving his office during a disturbance on campus.
The video has been accompanied by various claims on social media. However, the university did not comment on the footage or confirm the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Reaffirming its position, the faith-based institution said it operates a zero-tolerance policy against sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, abuse of office and any behaviour that threatens the safety, dignity or welfare of students and staff.
The university added that anyone found to have violated its regulations or Nigerian law would face appropriate disciplinary action through due process.
Management also disclosed that counselling and psychological support would be provided for affected student(s) and other members of the university community where necessary.
The institution urged the public to avoid speculation or spreading unverified information that could interfere with ongoing investigations.
It assured parents, students and staff that further updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.
