Troops Rescue Poly Rector, 22 Others in Zamfara Anti-Kidnapping Operations
Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, Dr. Aminu Yusuf, and thwarted multiple kidnapping attempts during coordinated operations in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The military said the operations, carried out in response to a series of distress calls and credible intelligence, disrupted planned abductions by suspected terrorists and led to the rescue of more than 20 civilians.
According to the military, the first operation was launched after troops intercepted a large group of armed terrorists riding motorcycles towards Tsohon-Tasha Street in Kaura Namoda.
The terrorists had reportedly invaded the residence of the Polytechnic Rector, where they killed his private security guard, Malam Isah Bello, 46, and wounded another guard, Sharhabilu Haruna, 35, before attempting to abduct Dr. Yusuf, his wife and their two children.
Troops responded swiftly to the attack, engaging the terrorists with superior firepower and forcing them to retreat, abandoning the intended victims. The Rector and his family were rescued unhurt.
In a separate operation, troops on patrol responded to a distress call from Tungan Dorawa community in Barkeji village, where suspected kidnappers were attempting to abduct residents.
Although difficult terrain initially slowed their movement, the troops pursued the fleeing suspects, engaged them in a firefight and successfully foiled the abduction attempt.
The military said troops simultaneously confronted another group of kidnappers operating within the same community, rescuing a 56-year-old businessman, Alhaji Azaria, alongside 21 other civilians who had been abducted from neighbouring homes.
All the rescued victims are reported to be safe and are receiving the necessary support.
Meanwhile, during the operation at Tsohon-Tasha Street, troops arrested a 45-year-old suspected informant, Falalu Yusuf, believed to have collaborated with the terrorists.
The suspect has been handed over to the Divisional Police Officer in Kaura Namoda for further investigation and necessary legal action.
The latest operations underscore the ongoing efforts of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to combat terrorism and banditry across Zamfara State while protecting communities from criminal attacks.
