…Says with our huge deposit, no reason to be poor
The federal government on Friday said the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) gas pipeline “is 87% ready.”
The government also said with the abundance of gas in the country, the people had no reason to be poor.
The Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication to the President, Sunday Dare, said this while leading a group of journalists on an inspection visit to state and federal government-executed projects in the South-east zone of the country, organised by the Renewed Hope Ambassadors (RHAs).
Speaking during a visit to the ANOH Gas Processing Company (AGPC) located in Assah, Ohaji/Egbema local government area of Imo state, Dare said under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the country had turned gas flaring to wealth-creation.
According to him, with the volume of gas in Nigeria, “we don’t have any reason to be poor.”
“The AKK is 87% ready. Nigeria is first in Africa in gas deposits and 9th globally. Under the present dispensation, decades of gas flaring has become a thing of the past and being turned to wealth. So, with this, there is no reason for poverty in Nigeria,” he said.
Welcoming the team to the facility, the General Manager (Operations), in charge of the AGPC plant, Engr. Nwogbe, said it was currently doing between 130 million and 170 million of its 300 million standard cubic feet capacity per day (MMscfd).
He described the facility as a “landmark private sector initiative” being managed by the company, in partnership with Renaissance.
He listed their critical off-takers to include LNG and Indorama, saying the company doesn’t deal with individual retail outlets.
Amaechi said the company “prides itself in maintaining the highest level of health, safety, and environmental protection,” adding that “our goal is to ensure injury-free projects and operations while minimising the environmental impact of our operations.”
Blueprint reports that the plant is one of Nigeria’s largest natural gas development projects and a cornerstone of the federal government’s Decade of Gas Initiative.
