Head coach of South Africa male national team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Hugo Broos, has resigned from his position following the team’s exit from the global competition.
Broos announced his resignation from the Bafana Bafana and ruled out continuing as coach but admitted that he would be willing to take up an advisory role, adding that he had already spoken with the South Africa Football Association, SAFA, Danny Jordan, on his decision.
”Will I continue as a coach of South Africa? No, it is irreversible,” the Belgian tactician said on Friday.
” If they need me for something else, perhaps in scouting, that is something else, but football is no longer going to be part of my 24 hours a day.
The septuagenarian took over the team in May 2021, when ranked 75 in the world, and took on the spell to achieve two African Cup of Nations, AFCON, qualifications, and also secured a World Cup ticket after 16 years absence, and also first knockout stage appearance in their history, the 74-year-old the longest serving head coach of the side.
