The newly appointed Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Segun Aina, has promised to make the protection of the examination body’s integrity the top priority of his administration.
Aina made the pledge on Friday during his official handover ceremony at JAMB’s National Headquarters in Bwari, Abuja, where he outlined his vision for strengthening public confidence in the country’s tertiary admissions system.
He said integrity must remain the foundation of every decision made by the Board, stressing that technology and operational efficiency have little value if they are not supported by transparency and fairness.
According to the new registrar, public trust is earned through consistent actions and uncompromising standards rather than promises.
“We shall protect the integrity of JAMB with everything the law permits,” Aina said, adding that the credibility of the institution depends on maintaining fairness in every aspect of its operations.
Tougher Fight Against Examination Fraud
Aina signalled a stronger crackdown on examination malpractice and admission-related fraud, warning that individuals involved in cheating, impersonation, certificate forgery, cybercrime and other illegal activities would face tougher scrutiny.
He said JAMB would strengthen its use of technology, intelligence gathering and institutional oversight to detect and prosecute offenders.
The registrar also pledged closer collaboration with security agencies and relevant stakeholders to tackle emerging forms of examination fraud and protect deserving candidates.
He noted that every fraudulent admission takes away an opportunity that rightfully belongs to another qualified applicant, making the fight against malpractice essential to preserving merit in Nigeria’s education system.
Plans to Improve JAMB Services
Beyond safeguarding examination integrity, Aina said his administration would focus on improving service delivery for candidates, parents and tertiary institutions.
He promised to simplify registration and admission processes, improve communication channels and deploy more technology to reduce delays and enhance users’ experience.
According to him, the goal is to build a transparent and citizen-focused institution where candidates receive timely information and professional support throughout the admission process.
Appreciation and Continuity
The new registrar thanked President Bola Tinubu for appointing him to lead the examination body and pledged to justify the confidence placed in him through dedicated service.
He also acknowledged the support of the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, while promising to work closely with the Federal Ministry of Education on reforms aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s education sector.
Aina paid tribute to former JAMB registrars, including Michael Saidu Angulu, Mohammed Abubakar, Bello Salim, Dibu Ojerinde and his immediate predecessor, Professor Is-haq Oloyede.
He particularly commended Oloyede for reforms that enhanced the credibility and public perception of the Board over the years.
A Full-Circle Journey
Reflecting on his appointment, Aina described the moment as a personal milestone, recalling that he once served at JAMB as a National Youth Service Corps member nearly two decades ago.
He said returning to lead the institution is both an honour and a responsibility, promising to build on existing achievements while preparing the Board to meet future challenges in Nigeria’s education sector.
