Mitch McConnell’s Continued Absence Sparks ‘Missing Persons’ Prank Around Washington

Citizens have taken the law into their own hands about Senator Mitch McConnell‘s prolonged absence from public for weeks.

The Republican politician has been out of office for more than a month after he was suddenly hospitalized on June 14.

Although McConnell, through updates from loved ones and colleagues, confirms he’s well on his way to recovery, questions still arise about the mystery surrounding his health.

The streets of Washington, DC, have been overtaken by “Missing Persons” posters looking for Sen. McConnell and poking fun at his condition.

As seen on social media, the poster includes a photo of the Kentucky senator from his hospital bed and a description underneath that speaks to his physical features.

“84 years, 5’9″ feet, and turtle-like,” were among the words used to describe McConnell. The prank poster also noted that the politician was last seen on June 11 and is famous for “blocking something in the Senate” and a tortoise appearance.

Finally, it reads, “If you have any information about his whereabouts, please keep it to yourself. He would.”

The viral practical joke was signed by the Save America Movement (SAM), an organization dedicated to “defending democracy and restoring common sense,” per PEOPLE Magazine. Their strict anti-MAGA stance makes Republican lawmakers their target.

A History Of Mitch McConnell’s Recent Health Woes

It comes as no surprise that things have gotten out of hand, as McConnell’s health concerns are no secret.

Although he has suffered many setbacks, his recent health issues began last month. It was announced that McConnell was suddenly rushed to the hospital. A rep for the senator revealed he was being excellently cared for but gave no details on the cause of his treatment.

Days later, his wife, Elaine Chao, traveled back from China to be by his side but gave no update. It wasn’t until almost a month later, on July 12, that the former Majority Leader broke his silence via an email memo to his constituents.

Per PEOPLE Magazine, McConnell confessed he had been dealing with “mobility challenges” caused by having polio as a child. Alongside the update was a picture of him on the hospital bed dressed in a plaid shirt with his wife standing next to him.

This isn’t the first time that McConnell’s mysterious condition has been made a laughing matter.

Weeks ago, late-night host Jimmy Kimmel put a humorous spin on the frail politician’s health update to mixed reactions. As reported by The Blast, the comedian took to Instagram to share a recreation of McConnell’s photo but with his face on the body.

The accompanying caption read, “For those who’ve been asking, I’m feeling great,” sending fans into fits of laughter.

However, some others criticized the joke for taking things too far. “Very poor taste, no matter your political views. Do better, Jimmy!” This user slammed.

The jokes aside, it didn’t take long for other notable figures to insert themselves in the conversation about McConnell’s whereabouts.

Such was the case when reality star Lisa Rinna fueled a crazy conspiracy theory. According to The Blast, the “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” alum insinuated that the politician was no longer alive and was being preserved.

“I mean, come on, Mitch McConnell’s dead. He’s dead. They’re keeping him alive like ‘Weekend at Bernie’s,’” she said in a TikTok clip.

Her response came shortly after Scott Jennings, a conservative strategist, claimed he had spoken to McConnell and he was “recovering” well.

Jennings isn’t the only close ally of the University of Kentucky alum who has given a positive update about his well-being, assuring constituents that he is in good spirits.

As The Blast reported days ago, Senator Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia gave an insight into McConnell’s ongoing recovery. According to Capito, a mutual friend of hers visited the father-of-three in the hospital and he was mentally alert and sharp. However, his body wasn’t just there yet.

“I talked to somebody yesterday who visited him and said that he was clear-minded and just needs to get stronger,” she said.

Capito further emphasized McConnell’s mental strength, adding that she would visit in person when he gives the go-ahead, as it is a sensitive time.
