Remi Tinubu’s recommendation on akara, kuli-kuli will grow small–scale businesses – University don 

The deputy vice chancellor of the University of Calabar, Professor Emeka Okafor, Wednesday, praised Nigerian First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu’s recommendation that people should sell akara and Kuli-kuli  to make a living, stressing that the effort will grow small scale businesses.

Prof. Okafor, in an online telephone interview, emphasised on the gap and distinction between supporting substantial survival and fostering business growth.

The don said empowerment should not stop at giving monies in form of grant but that petty businesses such as the sale of akara, moi moi and kuli-kuli could scale up small businesses that could boost personal income as well as the national economy.

“Small scale business owners can, with this recommendation of hers, approach her for intervention that can help to grow their businesses through grants from her office,” the educationist added.

Also, in a chat with Blueprint, Edet Abang, a groundnut seller at Mabuchi, while reacting expressed utmost joy on the recognition of small-scale businesses by the government

She said, ‘’I am glad and happy that government has finally seen our efforts as small business owners and I think this will help us in many ways.”

Also speaking, another trader, who sells roasted corn around VIO area of Mabushi, stated that business has generally been poor, adding that things are really expensive in the market, which affects sales and profits.
