The Police have arraigned three suspects in court over allegations of killing a Federal Capital Territory resident in an act view to have contravened the area’s laws.
The police command the defendants, Adimike Anthony, Adimike Stephany and one other Comfort Ajibade,. stating that trio connived to kill the deceased, Adimike Godwin, following a distress call from a relative of the victim who reported that latter was not responding to repeated attempts to contact him.
Operatives at the Guzape Divisional Headquarters responded to the scene but found the casualty unconscious in his room with multiple stab wounds after which he was rushed to the Karu General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead by medical personnel.
The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, ordered a comprehensive investigation into the case after which five suspects were initially arrested, including the deceased’ss driver and gateman. However, after the conclusion of investigations, only Anthony, Stephany and Ajibade were charged to court.
In a statement issued on Monday, by the Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, the suspects were arraigned on a four-count charge bordering on criminal conspiracy to commit culpable homicide, culpable homicide, and offences under the Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act.
The police disclosed that all three defendants were jointly charged with conspiracy to commit culpable homicide and culpable homicide in relation to the death of Adimike Godwin and added that Anthony was separately charged with entering into a same-sex civil union, while Adimike Chinyere Stephany and Comfort Ajibade were jointly charged with entering into a same-sex civil union contrary to the provisions of the Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act.
The court adjourned the matter to September 30, 2026, for further proceedings and ordered that the three defendants be remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre pending the hearing.
The FCT Police Command assured residents that it would continue to pursue justice for victims of crime while respecting the constitutional rights of all persons throughout the judicial process.
