The Oyo State Government has denied claims that it paid a ransom to secure the release of pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area.
The denial follows allegations made by social media commentator Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), who claimed the government paid the kidnappers but that the victims were not released.
Reacting to the allegation, the state government described the claim as false and urged members of the public to disregard it.
Government says no ransom was paid
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, the government insisted that no ransom had been paid to the abductors.
The commissioner described the report as misinformation, attributing it to what he called irresponsible bloggers.
He stressed that the state government remains focused on efforts to secure the safe return of the victims.
Authorities continue rescue efforts
The government stated that both the Oyo State Government and the Federal Government are working with security agencies to ensure the abducted pupils and teachers regain their freedom.
The victims were kidnapped on May 15 in Oriire Local Government Area.
Officials also urged residents to rely on verified information from official government channels instead of unconfirmed reports circulating on social media.
Government reaffirms commitment
The Oyo State Government reiterated its commitment to bringing the incident to a safe conclusion and securing the release of all those still in captivity.
Authorities appealed for public cooperation as security operations continue.
