President Bola Tinubu has expressed sadness over the death of elder statesman and former Lagos politician, Alhaji Ganiyu Kolapo Oseni, describing him as a committed advocate of democracy and a respected political leader.
In a statement personally signed and shared on his verified X account on Friday, the President praised Oseni’s contributions to public service, saying his leadership, vision and dedication left a lasting impact on Lagos State and Nigeria.
President recalls years of political partnership
Tinubu said Oseni played a significant role in his political journey, revealing that the late politician introduced him to active politics and remained one of his strongest supporters throughout his career.
According to the President, Oseni stood by him during his emergence as Senator representing Lagos West and later as Governor of Lagos State.
He added that they shared memorable moments and made sacrifices together during the struggle to restore democratic governance in Nigeria.
Legacy of service remembered
The President also highlighted Oseni’s contributions during the Second Republic, noting that he served as the Organising Secretary of Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) in Lagos State.
Tinubu said Oseni also contributed to the establishment of the Lagos State Printing Corporation, where a central mosque was recently named in his honour.
He described the late statesman as a trusted ally, friend and brother whose legacy of service and commitment to democracy would continue to inspire future generations.
