The Hisbah Agency in Kebbi State has arrested three underage children over alleged contravention of laws through possession of prohibited drugs.
The Husband Agency arrested the minors of ages between 10 and 13 years who are pupils of the Quranic school, popularly known as Almajirai, stating that investigators are ongoing to unravel empossible factors that may have contributed to the children’s involvement, including the roles of their parents, guardians and teachers.
The arrests were made yesterday and was announced by the Director of Da’awa and Public Awareness of the agency, Sirajo Kamba, on Friday while briefing journalists in Birnin Kebbi, state capital.
Speaking on the development, Kamba said the case highlights the need for greater vigilance in protecting children from harmful influences.
“We are deeply concerned about the increasing exposure of minors to hard drugs and other social vices.
“Our priority is to understand how these children became involved and ensure they receive the necessary guidance and protection,” he said.
Kamba added that the agency remains committed to promoting moral values and safeguarding the welfare of children across the state.
“Appropriate steps will be taken to prevent a recurrence and help steer the affected children away from negative influences,” he added.
The agency further disclosed that preliminary findings showed the suspects are from Niger State and Maiyama Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
Kamba concluded by stating that the agency would continue working with relevant stakeholders to address issues affecting vulnerable children and strengthen efforts aimed at protecting them from criminal and harmful activities.
