The Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) has extended the deadline for submitting textbooks and other instructional materials for the 2026 Phase I assessment, reassessment, and ranking exercise.

The Federal Ministry of Education’s Council said that publishers, authors, and other qualified stakeholders now have until August 7, 2026 to complete and submit their works.

The extension follows an earlier deadline of July 3, 2026, and is aimed at encouraging broader participation in the national textbook evaluation exercise while giving stakeholders additional time to finalise their submissions.

In a statement issued by the Executive Secretary of NERDC, Prof. Salisu Shehu, the Council explained that the extension was approved to enable more publishers, authors and other participants in the book industry to take part in the 2026 Phase I textbook assessment process.

According to the statement, the final extension was granted to ensure broader participation and give publishers, authors and other eligible stakeholders an additional opportunity to complete and submit their materials for the 2026 Phase I textbook assessment, reassessment and ranking exercise.

NERDC urged all intending participants to make use of the final submission window, stressing that all entries must comply with the approved procedures contained in the Textbook Quality Indicators and Submission Guidelines, noting that the guidelines remain unchanged and are available on its official website.

The Council, however, emphasised that the August 7 deadline is final, warning that no further extension would be granted and that late submissions received after the deadline would not be accepted under any circumstances.

NERDC also expressed appreciation to publishers, authors and other stakeholders for their continued cooperation, urging them to comply promptly with all submission requirements to ensure a smooth assessment and ranking process.
