Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa state said he has signed over 8,000 Certificate of Occupancy (CofO) since assumption of office in 2019.
He disclosed this during a monthly briefing with Journalists on Monday, in Lafia.
He said his administration met files of already processed Certificates of Occupancy owned by investors who may be waiting for the documents to access facilities from financial institutions to commence operation.
Represented by the commissioner of Lands, Barr. David Moyi, the governor said there are also several applications by individual land owners who were seeking valid documents to commence development of their plots, stressing that he had to act properly to address the situation.
On the issue of ground rent, Sule warned that anyone who defaults paying the ground rent, his C-of O will be revoked.
He noted that the state government is making efforts to proffer solutions to the issues of land grabbing which had over the years been reported in some parts of the state.
The governor therefore, encouraged land owners in the state to apply for their C-ofOs, assuring that the signing of the document does not exceed two months if the application fees are paid in line with the requirements.
Also speaking, the commissioner of information, culture and tourism, Dr. Ibrahim Tanko, said the governor accelerated the processes leading to the provision of Certificate of Occupancy to land owners in comparison to his predecessors.
He said the number of C of Os signed by governor Sule from the period he assumed office in 2019 to date is more than those that were signed by all his predecessors combined.
Blueprint.ng gathered that Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura had signed 3,254 in his eight years tenure, late former governor Aliyu Akwe Doma signed 24 of the documents within his four years, while Senator Abdullahi Adamu signed 254 C of Os between 1999 and 2007 he was in the office.
