Kwara: 15 killed, others injured in road crash 


Up to 15 persons lost their lives in a fatal road accident that occured in the early hours of Monday June 6, 2026 along the Ogmomosho- Oloru expressway , Oko- Olowo, a suburb of Ilorin, the capital of Kwara state. 

The incident which occurred in the front of Ilorin muslim cemetery Oko- Olowo, also left 17 others injured with varying degrees of injuries. 

The Federal Road Saftey Corps (FRSC), which confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday, said personnel of RS8.15 Oloru and RS8.1 Kwara (Oko-Olowo outpost) conducted a joint rescue operations to search for more victims buried under the load of the trailer.

The lone accident, according to the commission, involved a DAF trailer with VEH REG NO: GWL274XC conveying 48 passengers.  

The statement signed by SRC Taofeeq M. Sanusi, acting officer in charge, Oko-Olowo Outpost, blamed the cause of the crash on fatique suffered by the driver, Nasiru Muhammed, which led to the lone crash around 2.30am.

The statement disclosed that the injured persons have been taken to Arewa Hospital and Baki hospital, Ilorin for medical attention while the body of  those who died in the crash have been released to the representatives of their families and leader of Hausawa community, Oko-lowo.

The state’s sector commander FRSC, Kabiru Kazeem, has also visited the scene of the accident to coordinate rescue and recovery operations.
