Man dies after stabbing in Cross River

A heated argument turned deadly in Ikom Local Government Area of Cross River State after a 36-year-old man, Charles Ekuma, was allegedly stabbed to death during the altercation.

The incident occurred at Etayip community in Ikom, where the deceased was allegedly attacked by a 42-year-old man, identified as Micheal Ndifon.

The spokesperson for the Cross River State Police Command, Eitokpah Sunday confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday.

Eitokpah said community leaders reported the matter to the Ikom Divisional Police Headquarters shortly after the incident.

According to him, the suspect allegedly stabbed the victim on the right side of his rib with a dagger during a disagreement.

“The victim was immediately rushed to Holy Family Hospital, Ikom, for treatment and was later referred to the Ebonyi State University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor while receiving treatment,” the police spokesperson said.

He added that the suspect had been arrested, while the suspected murder weapon had been recovered as an exhibit.

Akata said the victim’s body had been deposited in the hospital morgue for an autopsy.

He added that the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and possible prosecution.
