A lawyer, publisher and humanitarian, Chief Ebosetale David Aigbefoh, and Prof. Ichado Sunday of the Institute of Education, University of Abuja, weekend, called on the federal government, corporate organisations and philanthropists to make massive investments in education and human capital development.
The call was made during the 5th Graduation and Prize-Giving Ceremony of NIMAT International Academy, Tungan Maje, Abuja. The high point of the event was the unveiling of the school’s mini stadium named ‘Chief Ebosetale David Aigbefor ESQ Stadium’ in honour of his contributions to the institution.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chief Aigbefoh said no nation can attain meaningful development without deliberate investment in quality education and the empowerment of its people.
He urged Nigerians to complement government efforts through infrastructure development, scholarships, mentorship programmes and other initiatives that promote academic excellence.
He also appealed to the federal government to prioritise the education sector by increasing funding, improving infrastructure, and implementing policies that will enhance teaching and learning nationwide.
Describing the stadium as a call to greater service, Aigbefoh said: “I hope it will encourage more Nigerians to invest in our schools and support programmes that promote the holistic development of our children.”
Delivering the keynote address, Prof. Ichado Sunday, described education as “the bedrock of national development,” adding that no country can achieve sustainable progress without a strong educational system.
He noted that the government alone cannot shoulder the responsibility of educating Nigerian children, and stated the need for greater collaboration between public and private stakeholders.
“The government alone cannot provide all that is required for the education of our children. When private proprietors and other stakeholders complement government efforts, the sector moves in the right direction,” he said.
