The Nigerian military has killed 52 terrorists and other criminals in the month of September as part of its efforts to curb insurgency in the country.
The many discloded that the enforcement was achieved during operations carried out in the country in the month of September, futher adding that the casualties were recorded as troops confronted the terrorists groups during counter-terrorism and other security operations.
It held that the crackdown was handed by Operations Hadin Kai, Fansan Yamma, Savannah Shield, Enduring Peace, Whirl Stroke and Udo Ka, as relayed by the Director, Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, disclosed the figures on Wednesday while briefing journalists on the military’s operational activities in September.
Onoja said troops recorded 367 attacks across the different theatres during the month, with Operation Enduring Peace accounting for 147 incidents, the highest among the operations.
He added that Operation Fansan Yamma recorded 115 attacks, while Operation Whirl Stroke had 55. Operation Hadin Kai recorded 33 attacks, followed by Savannah Shield with 13 and Udo Ka with four.
Beyond the neutralisation of 52 terrorists and criminals, the military said its operations led to the arrest of 350 suspects and the rescue of 655 kidnapped civilians.
Onoja further disclosed that 75 insurgents surrendered to the military during the period, while troops recovered 52 arms and 2,335 rounds of ammunition.
The military also dismantled eight illegal refining sites and recovered more than 304,822 litres of stolen petroleum products during operations against criminal activities.
According to Onoja, the September results reflected the military’s continued efforts to tackle terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, oil theft and other security threats across the country.
He said the Armed Forces of Nigeria remained committed to sustaining operations aimed at creating a safer environment for citizens.
Looking at the third quarter of 2026, Onoja said the military had neutralised 554 terrorists and criminals, arrested 1,333 others and rescued 1,736 kidnapped civilians.
He added that 333 insurgents surrendered during the quarter, while troops recovered 244 arms and 8,160 rounds of ammunition, dismantled 104 illegal refining sites and recovered 1,610,402 litres of stolen petroleum products.
