The Lagos State Government has demolished illegal structures in Iju-Ishaga as part of its ongoing enforcement drive to protect public infrastructure, ensure compliance with environmental regulations, and maintain a clean, safe and orderly environment.
The exercise was carried out by operatives of the State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, who removed structures identified as unlawful and obstructing public spaces during the enforcement operation in the area.
In a statement posted on its official social media platforms on Thursday, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said the exercise carried out at Makanjuola street formed part of the State Government’s sustained commitment to enforcing environmental laws and preserving public assets across the state.
Wahab mentioned that the enforcement is aimed at preventing encroachment on public infrastructure, improving environmental sanitation, and ensuring that roads, drainage channels, and other public spaces remain free from obstructions that could pose risks to residents or impede government services.
The Commissioner noted that the demolition reflects the government’s zero-tolerance stance on environmental violations and unauthorised developments that undermine urban planning regulations and public safety.
Wahab reiterated that the Ministry would continue similar enforcement exercises across Lagos to ensure strict compliance with environmental and physical planning laws, warning that individuals or groups occupying public spaces or erecting structures without the necessary approvals would face appropriate sanctions.
