A 45-year-old man, Abubakar Abdulahi, and his daughter, Fiddausi, have both tragically died after falling inside a well in an incident which has caused grief scenes at a community in Kano State.
Fidaussi was said to have accidentally fallen into the well after which her father jumped into the digged downed opening to rescue his daughter but both were unable to escape, resulting in their demise despite an intervention by rescue workers.
The mishap led to a distress call to the Kano State Fire Service after which the agency deployed its men to the scene but despite their intervention, the casualties were brought out from the well lifeless, as informed by the Public Relations Officer, Saminu Abdulahi, on Wednesday.
Abdulahi mentioned that the agency got the calls during the tragic incident which happened on Monday at Yancibi Village in Tsanyawa Local Government Area, adding that the responders were unable to complete the operation due to darkness and difficult conditions at the scene.
”Our rescue team successfully recovered the victims from the well,” reads a statement from the Fire Service.
”They were brought out unconscious and were later confirmed dead,” it continued, adding that the bodies were handed over to the village head, one Shamsu Sani.
The agency has expressed condolences to the bereaved family and urged residents to avoid entering wells without proper equipment and trained emergency personnel.
