President Bola Tinubu has approved a fresh round of appointments into key Federal Government agencies and commissions, naming former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose as Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) Board in a move aimed at strengthening governance across critical public institutions.
The appointments, which cover 26 positions in 10 federal agencies and commissions, also saw Major General Junaid Bindawa (retd) named Chairman of the National Salaries and Wages Commission.
Fayose, and the others appointments were disclosed on Monday through a statement issued by the President’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga.
Fayose will head the REA Board alongside Ahmadu Abubakar and Ilyasu Makinta, who were appointed as members and non-executive directors.
The board will also comprise the agency’s Director-General, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, and three executive directors already serving in the agency.
The Rural Electrification Agency plays a pivotal role in expanding electricity access to underserved and rural communities across Nigeria through off-grid, renewable energy and grid extension projects.
In the National Salaries and Wages Commission, Tinubu appointed former Lagos lawmaker, Olajumoke Okoya-Thomas, as Secretary, alongside commissioners drawn from different geopolitical zones.
The commissioners include Dr. Ogbole Lilian (Benue), Oladele Olatubosun (Oyo), Yakubu Umar Barde (Kaduna), Dr. Mai Adamu Yau (Borno), Florence Tor (Enugu), Lawrence Okoh (Edo) and Bello Iyabode (Kogi).
In another key appointment, Tosin Adeyanju, who had earlier been named Executive Secretary of the National Lottery Trust Fund, was redeployed as Secretary of the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission.
Tinubu also approved the appointment of Dr. Abuh Mohammed as Director-General of the National Population Commission, while Dr. Akinola Odeyemi was named Managing Director of the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading (NBET).
Similarly, Dr. Anthony Inalegwu emerged as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission, while Julius Oloro was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation (NCAM), replacing the late Dr. A.R. Kamal.
The President also inaugurated a new board for the Fiscal Responsibility Commission with Dr. Abdullahi Saidu as Chairman. Other members include Mohammed Asmau, Mohammed Makama, Dr. Suleiman Gidado, Louis Ndukwe, Amaechi Ugwele and Olaniyi Onikola.
Also appointed was Muhammad Dahiru as Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education, replacing Professor Shu’aibu Aliyu, who was earlier reassigned to the Petroleum Trust Development Fund.
To fill the vacancy created by the resignation of the former Executive Director (Finance) of the Federal Housing Authority, Mathias Byuan, Tinubu appointed economist and legal scholar, Vincent Iorja, who currently serves as Secretary of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission.
The appointments are expected to strengthen institutional leadership across strategic sectors, including rural electrification, energy, population management, agriculture, fiscal responsibility, housing and public sector remuneration, as the Federal Government pushes ahead with reforms aimed at improving governance and service delivery nationwide.
