Idoma Renaissance, a non-governmental organisation, Monday criticised the National Assembly members of Idoma extraction over what it described as poor constituency performance, warning that non-performing lawmakers would not be returned in 2027 and future elections.
The group alleged that despite reported constituency allocations of N6 billion for each senator and N3 billion for each member of the House of Representatives under President Bola Tinubu’s empowerment initiative, many lawmakers had little to show in terms of visible development.
In a statement signed by its president, Johnson Ogwuche, and secretary, Philip Okoh, made available to newsmen in Makurdi, the organisation insisted that such huge public funds must translate into projects that directly improve the lives of constituents.
It, however, singled out Senator David Jimkuta of Taraba South for commendation, describing his leadership as exemplary and noting that his empowerment programme provided cars, motorcycles, refrigerators, sewing machines, grinding machines and other business equipment to more than 1,000 beneficiaries across the senatorial district.
The group also announced the constitution of an Assessment Committee to scrutinise constituency funds released to lawmakers against projects executed, adding that only measurable performance would earn public support.
