THE Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area of Lagos State, Mr Abdullahi Sesan-Olowa, on Wednesday urged residents to notify the council of flooding incidents for prompt response.
Sesan-Olowa, who is also Chairman of Conference 57, gave the directive in a statement signed by him and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
The chairman spoke against the backdrop of persistent rainfall in the state and the area’s low-lying coastal terrain.
Sesan-Olowa said: “The council is aware of the persistent rainfall, which has caused flooding in some communities”.
He said the local government understood residents’ concerns and was closely monitoring the situation across affected communities.
The chairman urged residents whose streets, communities or roads had been affected by flooding or severe waterlogging to promptly notify the local government area.
He said timely reports would enable the council to assess affected locations and deploy appropriate remedial measures.
Sesan-Olowa advised residents to exercise caution during this period.
He urged residents to avoid unnecessary movement through flooded areas and refrain from walking or driving through submerged roads where possible.
The chairman also advised residents to keep drainage channels free of refuse to ensure the free flow of rainwater.
He said response teams were on standby and would continue to monitor developments and intervene where necessary to protect lives and property.
NAN reports that Lagos State has been experiencing prolonged rainfall in recent weeks, resulting in flooding in some parts of the state.
