Face of Liberty International has urged young Africans to take greater responsibility for addressing the developmental challenges confronting their countries, rather than relying solely on governments and political institutions.
The executive director of the organisation, Mr. Leonard Ogunweide, made the call during the virtual graduation ceremony of the first cohort of its 2026 Free Market Fellowship.
The 10-week fellowship, which attracted participants from several African countries, was designed to equip emerging leaders with leadership and civic education while exposing them to ideas on human dignity, personal responsibility, free markets, entrepreneurship, public policy, livelihoods and effective communication.
Speaking at the event, Ogunweide said Africa’s development would depend on citizens who could transform ideas, knowledge, skills and available resources into productive value.
“Potential alone is never enough. A large youth population does not automatically create progress. Leadership is a decision to take responsibility for making something better,” he said.
He added that sustainable prosperity could only be achieved in an environment where people are free to establish businesses, enjoy property rights and take responsibility for improving their lives.
