The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 81 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Adebayo Abdulrahman Babalola, Sunday charged troops deployed across the Area of Responsibility to remain vigilant, disciplined and professional in the discharge of their constitutional duties
He warned that acts of harassment, extortion and other forms of misconduct will not be tolerated.
The GOC gave the charge during an operational visit to the Forward Operating Base (FOB), Imeko, Ogun state, where he assessed the operational readiness and welfare of troops as part of his familiarisation tour of formations and units under the 81 Division.
Addressing officers and soldiers, Major General Babalola commended the troops for their commitment, discipline and professionalism, noting that reports from the Officer Commanding the FOB, Major S.Y. Tula, as well as positive feedback from members of the Imeko community, reflected the high standards of conduct maintained by personnel in the area.
He urged the troops not to relent but to sustain the momentum in carrying out their constitutional responsibilities of safeguarding lives, protecting national assets and supporting internal security operations.
The army commander also reminded the troops of the Chief of Army Staff’s Command Philosophy, anchored on the five pillars of Professional Excellence, Sound Administration, Operational Effectiveness, Strategic Collaboration and Exemplary Leadership, adding that these principles should guide their conduct both on and off duty.
While acknowledging the sacrifices made by troops in the line of duty, Babalola cautioned them against any action capable of bringing the Nigerian Army into disrepute, particularly harassment of civilians, extortion and other acts of indiscipline.
He stated that professionalism and respect for human rights remain critical to sustaining public confidence in military operations.
As part of the visit, the GOC paid a courtesy call on the Onimeko of Imeko, Oba Benjamin Alabi Oyeditan-Olanite, where he sought the continued support and cooperation of the traditional institution and residents in enhancing security within the border community.
He also requested honest feedback on the conduct of troops, assuring the monarch that the Nigerian Army remains committed to maintaining cordial civil-military relations while carrying out its constitutional mandate.
Earlier, Major General Babalola visited the Headquarters of the 35 Artillery Brigade in Abeokuta, where he was received by the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General F.O. Onu. During the visit, he inspected operational and administrative facilities, including the Brigade War Memorial, and interacted with officers and soldiers.
