Ahead of 2027 election, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has warned politicians in the state irrespective of political parties against turning government buildings and other public infrastructures in the state into their campaign boards, stressing that any candidate or person found violating this directive will be prosecuted inline with the state environmental laws.
Addressing a press conference in yola on Thursday night, the chief press Secretary to the Governor, Mr.Humwashi wonosikou, denied any political undertones in the state government’s decision to dragged ADC gubernatorial candidate to court over placements of campaign posters on public structures.
He noted that there won’t be sacred cow or party consideration in the enforcement of the environmental laws in the state.
According to him, public facilities such as flyovers, bridges, public buildings, street lights, roads and other public structures were build with public funds to improve the quality of lives of the citizens so they are not campaign boards for political parties and aspiring individuals.
” The position of Government is neither new nor selective .The law prohibiting the defacement of public property has always existed,and it apply equally to everyone regardless of political party or social standing.this was never about politics but about responsibility, ” he said.
He said no responsible government can spend billions of naira beautifying cities, constructing modern flyovers , improving road corridors and restoring public infrastructures only to watch those same facilities become canvases for indiscriminate posters campaign.
According to him, urban renewal is not measured solely by the construction of roads, and bridges. it is sustained by discipline, civil responsibility and respect for public assets.
“Every poster pasted illegally on government infrastructure diminishes the collective investment of the people of Adamawa state,” he said.
Humwashi further assured that the administration remains committed to protecting every public assets build with tax payers money and would continued to uphold the law firmly, fairly and without exception, saying Adamawa belong to all, so the beauty of the cities and the intergrity of public infrastructure and rule of law must never become casualties of political ambition.
The Governor further advised political parties and their candidates to utilised lawful and responsible avenues for public engagement such as billboards, flex banners ,designated advertising spaces, newspapers, radio, television, digital media, townhall meetings and other legitimate platforms for their campaigns.
