Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri Tuesday commissioned a multi-million naira remodelled Yola town, saying it would boost socio- economic activities in the state.
Speaking at the commissioning of the project in Yola, Governor Fintiri said his administration’s decision to embark upon this project was to end a history of disorder and re- occurring fire outbreaks over the years that has consistently led to lost of lives and properties, subjecting families to untold hardships.
He noted that the market would not only provide lasting solutions to the challenges but will also restore hope, improves safety, enhances business’s environment and reconstructs the lives and livelyhood of families beyond the market walls.
Fintiri further noted that the Yola market like most of the projects embarked upon by his administration was “one problem seen and one problem solved matched by a solution that is durable for the moment and sustainable for the future inline with his administration mantra of leaving no one behind and nothing untouched.”
According to him, when he visited the market after a fire incident last year, he saw the pains, and felt the lost.
He added that he promised not only to rebuild the market but also give the traders a befitting modern market.
The Governor further explained that the new market has 936 shops made up of 120 open and 816 lockup shops with stronger perimeter fence and wider access roads for fire trucks and a fire service station.
Other facilities in the market are comprehensive water raticulation system with overhead tanks and fire hydrants at strategic points to prevent future disasters ,dissilted drainages, modern toilets and sanitation facilities among others for traders comfort.
Fintiri further called on the traders to take full ownership of the market, directing the ministry of commerce trade and industries to hire capable facility managers who will take over the security and cleaning of the modern market in order to safeguard it and give it a befitting status.
