Nollywood actress Moyo Lawal has hit back at comments about her private life, questioning why her appearance and a past sex tape should be used to suggest that she sleeps around or to judge the kind of person she is.
Lawal spoke out in a strongly worded Instagram post after taking exception to comments she described as “nonsense,” asking whether looking attractive and being unmarried were enough reasons for people to make assumptions about her sexual life.
The actress also rejected suggestions that her career in the entertainment industry was built through sexual relationships, insisting that her professional journey tells a different story.
According to Lawal, she came into the industry through television, with her first job secured through a married couple before she began getting subsequent opportunities through mass auditions.
She added that she mainly worked with female producers during the early stages of her career, making it difficult for her to understand why her professional achievements were being linked to sleeping around.
“Me and sleeping around has absolutely nothing in common, sir,” the actress wrote, firmly dismissing the allegation.
Lawal also spoke about a past relationship, claiming that she left a man who could not deal with losing her and subsequently tried to destroy her in the process.
Although, she did not identify the man, the actress appeared to suggest that her experience from the relationship had contributed to some of the narratives surrounding her.
She further questioned the assumption that a “sexy woman” who is unmarried must automatically be sleeping around, describing the reasoning behind such a conclusion as unacceptable.
Turning the argument back on the person she was addressing, Lawal said she was confident that she had not had as many partners as that individual’s current partner, regardless of the person’s age.
The actress then challenged those discussing her to make proper inquiries about her rather than relying on assumptions or narratives about her personal life.
Lawal concluded her response by dismissing the comments as “rubbish talk,” while making it clear that she would not allow speculation about her relationships or past to define her.
