The Federal Government has congratulated Colombia’s President-elect, Abelardo de la Espriella, on his electoral victory, reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to deepening bilateral relations through enhanced cooperation in trade, investment, security and South-South partnership.
The government described the election outcome as a reflection of the democratic will of the Colombian people and expressed its readiness to work closely with the incoming administration as it prepares to assume office, while pledging to strengthen the longstanding ties between both countries.
The position was conveyed in a statement issued on Friday by the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, who said Nigeria welcomed the peaceful democratic process that produced the President-elect and looked forward to expanding collaboration with Colombia under the new administration.
According to the statement, Nigeria and Colombia share a common commitment to democracy, peace and sustainable development, providing a strong foundation for closer engagement on issues of mutual interest.
It noted that the Federal Government remains committed to reinforcing existing areas of cooperation, particularly in trade, investment, security and South-South cooperation.
The ministry also expressed confidence that the leadership of President-elect de la Espriella would further strengthen the longstanding friendship between Nigeria and Colombia, leading to greater economic and diplomatic cooperation for the benefit of both countries and their peoples.
It added that the Federal Government wished the President-elect success as he prepares to assume office and expressed hope that his administration would advance peace, progress and prosperity for the Colombian people while fostering stronger bilateral relations with Nigeria.
