A cloud of grief has descended on Kaffe community in Zaki-Biam, Ukum Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue state, following the tragic death of two young sisters who were allegedly burnt to death by their father’s girlfriend after she reportedly set their sleeping hut ablaze.

“She perhaps thought that her man had brought another woman into the house, which angered her,” a community source said.
The source added that the misunderstanding escalated and later ended in tragedy.
Children trapped in inferno
According to residents, the mother of the deceased children had travelled to a village in neighbouring Taraba state for farming activities at the time of the incident.
Their father was said to have locked the two girls inside a round hut before retiring to another hut within the compound.
At about midnight, the suspect allegedly set the hut on fire, reportedly believing that another woman was inside.
Unfortunately, the two girls were trapped inside the burning structure and could not escape as the flames spread rapidly.
Neighbours who rushed to the scene after hearing cries and seeing the fire were unable to save the children.
