The chairman of Ezza North local government area, Chief Ogodo Ali and the Ezza Ezekuna General Youth Assembly (EEGYA) have endorsed Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru as their sole governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
They also rejected the recent endorsement of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Chief Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii (Anyichuks) by another group claiming to represent Ezza youth.
The endorsement was announced at a meeting of youth leaders from the 41 Ezza communities across Ezza North, Ezza South, Onicha, Ishielu and Ohaukwu local government areas, where participants resolved to support Governor Nwifuru’s second-term bid, citing his performance, commitment to peace and inclusive governance.
Addressing the gathering, Ali said Ezza people had resolved to remain aligned with the Nwifuru administration because of its commitment to peace, equity and development, adding that the governor deserved a second term in line with Ebonyi state’s rotational arrangement.
He dismissed reports that another group had endorsed Odii, insisting those behind the endorsement did not represent Ezza people. “We don’t know those people. When Ezza people gather to take a position, they gather here. Anybody can claim to be Ezza, but that does not mean they represent Ezza people,” he said.
In a communiqué signed by its national president, Dr. Jeff Ogbu, and national secretary, Comrade Nkwuda David Friday, EEGYA said the governor had earned the confidence of Ezza people through his commitment to peace, infrastructure development, youth empowerment and inclusive governance, particularly for restoring peace in Effium and Abaomege/Ishinkwo communities.
The assembly unanimously adopted Nwifuru as its sole governorship candidate for 2027 and also endorsed all All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates for the senatorial, House of Representatives, State House of Assembly and forthcoming local government elections, saying the decision was based on performance and continuity.
