The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has expelled a three-term former member of the House of Representatives, Dr Saubana Ajibola Muraina, over alleged anti-party activities following his defection to the Peoples Democratic Party.
Muraina, who represented the Ibarapa Central/Ibarapa North Federal Constituency, reportedly left the APC after losing the party’s ticket for the constituency ahead of the 2027 elections and subsequently emerged as the PDP candidate for the seat.
The decision was taken by the APC Ward 09, Oke-Iserin, Igboora, in Ibarapa Central Local Government Area, following an emergency meeting of the ward executives in Igboora on Tuesday.
The ward leadership announced the expulsion in a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Fasasi Mustapha, and Secretary, Afolabi Abiodun.
The ward executives accused Muraina of continuing to present himself as an APC member despite his defection to the PDP, alleging that the conduct could create confusion and division within the party.
According to the APC ward leadership, Muraina’s actions amounted to anti-party activities and violated provisions of Article 21(A)(ii), (v) and (x) of the party’s constitution, as amended.
The executives consequently declared that Muraina was no longer a member of the APC at the ward, local government, state or national levels and should not be presented as a member or leader of the party.
The ward said the disciplinary decision followed Muraina’s failure to secure the APC nomination for the 2027 House of Representatives election, after which he moved to the PDP and obtained its ticket for the same constituency.
The executives said the formal expulsion notice had been forwarded through the Ibarapa Central Local Government APC chairman to the state party chairman for ratification.
“He ceases to be a member of our party at ward, local government, state and national levels and should no longer be regarded as or paraded as a member or leader of the APC.”
They added that the document would subsequently be transmitted to the APC National Working Committee in Abuja for further action.
Muraina had previously won election to the House of Representatives in 2007, 2011 and 2019.
He later moved from the PDP to the APC in 2022 and contested the 2023 National Assembly election on the platform of the ruling party.
