A member of the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC), Stanley Emenin, has died from gunshot injuries sustained during a joint security operation that successfully rescued a kidnapped farmer in Igbanke community, Orhionmwon local government area of Edo state.
Emenin, 43, was reportedly shot while participating in a bush-combing operation launched by security operatives to secure the release of a 60-year-old farmer, Tuesday Osemeke, who had been abducted by suspected kidnappers.
The victim later succumbed to his injuries on June 29 despite efforts by medical personnel to save his life.
Following his death, the Commissioner of Police in Edo state, CP Monday Agbonika, accompanied by the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, ACP Innocent Nkeamatara, paid a condolence visit to Emenin’s family at Idumodu community in Igbanke.
Speaking during the visit, Agbonika described the deceased as a courageous, patriotic and selfless community security operative whose sacrifice in the service of humanity would not be forgotten.
The visit was contained in a statement issued by the State Police spokesman, ASP. Eno Ikoedem.
The police commissioner conveyed the condolences of officers and men of the Edo State Police Command to the bereaved family, friends and residents of Igbanke community, praying for the strength to bear the loss.
The police recalled that on June 26, operatives of the Igbanke Division, in collaboration with ESSC personnel, hunters and members of the Community Safety Partnership, embarked on an intensive search operation after Osemeke was kidnapped by armed men.
