Davido Reveals How Makeup Artist Became ‘Aye’ Video Star

Award-winning Afrobeats singer Davido has revealed how an unexpected last-minute change led to a makeup artist becoming the lead female model in the music video for his hit song, Aye.

The singer made the revelation during a recent interview with Capital Xtra, where he reflected on one of the most memorable moments from the production of the iconic video.

Original lead model pulled out before filming

According to Davido, the woman initially selected for the lead role was unable to participate because she was under contract with a beauty pageant.

He explained that the production team was informed shortly before filming that the pageant organisers would not permit her to appear in the music video.

With filming already scheduled and no room to postpone the shoot, the team was forced to find a replacement immediately.

Makeup artist stepped into the spotlight

Davido said the team eventually chose the model’s makeup artist to take over the lead role.

The unexpected decision proved successful, as the music video went on to become one of the biggest releases of his early career.

The singer also disclosed that the success of the video reportedly caused a fallout between the original model and her makeup artist.

‘Aye’ remains a fan favourite

Released during the early stages of Davido’s career, Aye became one of the defining songs of Nigerian Afrobeats.

The music video remains one of the most recognisable visuals in the genre and continues to attract millions of views years after its release.
