The Cross River State Police Command has impounded 25 vehicles in Calabar for violating regulations on vehicle registration plates.
The action forms part of an ongoing nationwide enforcement directive by the Inspector-General of Police aimed at ensuring compliance with vehicle registration regulations and strengthening efforts to tackle crime across the country.
The command disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday by its spokesperson, Eitokpah Sunday, saying the operation was carried out within the Calabar metropolis.
According to the statement, the affected vehicles were found operating without registration plates or with covered, altered, defaced, unauthorised dealer number plates, or obscured registration plates.
The command said the offenders had been subjected to the appropriate administrative and legal procedures and were being prosecuted in line with relevant laws.
It explained that the enforcement exercise was aimed at enhancing public safety, improving vehicle identification, and denying criminal elements the anonymity often associated with unregistered, altered, defaced, or concealed number plates.
“The Cross River State Police Command reiterates its commitment to intelligence-led, proactive, and community-focused policing. Members of the public are urged to comply with all traffic and vehicle registration regulations, as the enforcement exercise will continue across the state,” the statement read.
The command also appealed to residents to support the initiative by reporting suspicious persons, activities, or emergencies through its dedicated emergency lines.
