An Abuja Magistrates’ Court sitting in Wuse Zone 2 has adjourned until August 17 the alleged ₦35 million financial misappropriation case against the immediate past National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Shehu Gabam, after it was unable to sit.
Gabam was arraigned in May in suit No. DCC/10/2026 over allegations that he misappropriated ₦35 million belonging to the SDP during his tenure as the party’s national chairman.
The SDP, which instituted the direct criminal complaint, accused Gabam of criminal breach of trust, misappropriation, theft and other financial offences.
When the matter came up for hearing, the court announced that it would not be sitting due to unforeseen circumstances, forcing the day’s proceedings to be suspended.
Following the development, counsel to the parties agreed on August 17 as the new date for the continuation of the trial.
Speaking with journalists after the adjournment, the SDP National Chairman, Prof. Sadiq Gombe, said it was the first time since the commencement of the trial that the court had failed to sit on an adjourned date.
He said the party was prepared to proceed with the case, adding that officials of Zenith Bank, who had been subpoenaed to produce the party’s statement of account, were present in court before the proceedings were stalled.
According to Gombe, the bank officials subsequently left with the documents after the court announced it would not sit.
