Suspected Boko Haram terrorists launched a coordinated attack on Logomani community in Ngala Local Government Area of Borno State, killing a soldier and destroying critical public infrastructure, including a police outpost, a primary healthcare centre and two classrooms.
The insurgents reportedly attacked the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Logomani, engaging troops in a fierce gun battle before forcing residents to flee amid sporadic gunfire. They also set several government facilities ablaze.
Confirming the attack on Thursday, the Acting Military Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Capt. Muhammed Goni, said the insurgents briefly breached a section of the base’s defensive perimeter during the firefight. However, he said the troops quickly regrouped and launched a counter-offensive that successfully repelled the attackers.
“Troops of Operation HADIN KAI deployed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Logomani in Ngala Local Government Area of Borno State under Sector One successfully contained a coordinated attack by ISWAP terrorists,” Goni said.
“Regrettably, one gallant soldier paid the supreme price, while two gun trucks and some combat enablers sustained damage during the engagement,” he added.
Goni said the military remains in full control of the base, with reinforcements already deployed to the area.
He added that troops have continued exploitation operations, while additional defensive measures are being put in place to strengthen security at the location against further attacks.
