The Police has arraigned a sexagenarian brothel owner, Chizoba Ojokwu, over offences of running the facility and procuring women and young girls into indulging in prostitution.
Ojukwu and other 30 suspects, out of the 200 persons nabbed by operatives of the Command were put on trial at the Asaba Magistrate Court after the police raided targeted blacks spots, brothels and suspected illicit drugs dens, in an enforcement carried out following credible information generated by the State Intelligence Department in accordance with the state’s laws.
In a statement released by the security agency yesterday, it relayed that the defendant contravened the Section 223 and 224 of the state’s Criminal Code Law, Cap. 221, Vol 1 Delta State Law, 2006, by permitting his property to be used for prostitution.
It added that 29 other litigants are facing prosecution for conducts likely to cause breach of peace and possession of illicit drugs, while the other 172 alleged transgressors were screened and released unconditionally, adding that the suspects remain in custody amid further investigation in the matter.
The Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, disclosed that intending crime perpetrators should desist from then act as it pose threat against public peace and security, adding that the Command would ceaselessly sustain intelligence-led operations to wash off criminals from the area.
