Two persons were killed in a road traffic crash that occurred in the early hours of Thursday at Ogbere Junction along the Ogbere/J4 corridor of the Sagamu/Ore Expressway in Ogun State, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has said.
The crash, which occurred at about 5:10 a.m., involved a white Mack truck with registration number ABC660XC and an orange Peugeot J5 bus with no registration number.
The impact of the collision caused the Peugeot J5 bus to burst into flames, completely engulfing its front section.
Confirming the incident on Thursday, the Public Relations Officer of the FRSC Ogun State Sector Command, Florence Okpe, said four adult male occupants were involved in the crash. Two died, while the remaining two escaped unhurt.
According to Okpe, preliminary investigations indicated that route violation and excessive speeding were responsible for the crash.
She said FRSC rescue personnel arrived at the scene within two minutes of receiving the distress call and immediately commenced rescue and traffic control operations.
“Officials diverted traffic to an alternative carriageway to minimise congestion while efforts were made to clear the wreckage from the road,” she said.
The bodies of the deceased were evacuated by officers of the Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division, Ogbere Division, and deposited at a mortuary.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, sympathised with the families of the victims and urged motorists to strictly adhere to traffic regulations.
He warned drivers against speeding and route violations, particularly during periods of poor visibility and on wet roads, stressing that reckless driving remains one of the leading causes of fatal road crashes across the country.
The FRSC reaffirmed its commitment to improving road safety through sustained enforcement, public enlightenment campaigns and prompt emergency response.
