The Law Officers Association of Nigeria (LOAN), Benue State Chapter, has resumed its indefinite strike after accusing the state government of failing to fulfil its promise to begin payment of 17 months’ salary arrears arising from the non-implementation of the Harmonisation Law.
The association said members resolved to resume the industrial action after the government failed to commence payment of the outstanding arrears despite an earlier commitment that prompted the suspension of the strike in May.
The strike resumed on Wednesday after the government failed to pay the outstanding arrears covering the period from December 2024 to April 2026, alongside workers’ June 2026 salaries.
According to the association, the decision was taken at an emergency congress held on Monday, June 29, 2026, while a notice conveying the resolution was issued on June 30 and addressed to Governor Hyacinth Alia.
It said the government’s failure to honour its commitment left members with no option but to reactivate the industrial action earlier suspended on May 25, adding that the strike would remain in force until all outstanding salary arrears are fully paid.
The notice was copied to key government officials and judicial officers, including the Secretary to the State Government, the Head of Service, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, the Commissioner for Finance, the Clerk of the Benue State House of Assembly, heads of ministries, departments and agencies, the Chief Judge of Benue State, the Presiding Judges of the Court of Appeal, National Industrial Court and Federal High Court, the Chief Magistrate, as well as the Director of the State Security Service in Benue.
LOAN reiterated that the indefinite strike would continue until the Benue State Government settles all outstanding salary arrears owed to its members.
