Bandits have abducted 13 residents from a Zamfara community in yet another violent raid that has left several properties destroyed and families in grief.
Community members reported that those who were kidnapped were mostly young women, children and elders who were too weak to escape from the bandits.
The gunmen who came on motorcycles and reportedly numbered up to 30 were said to have started firing guns immediately they arrived to scare away security operatives.
Also, during the attack, they set several houses ablaze, including the residence of a prominent community elder, Ahmad Galadawa.
It was gathered that the attack occurred last night around 11 pm in Dauran town, Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State
Community members who spoke to correspondents on Friday described scenes of chaos as the attackers stormed homes, carting away victims amid gunshots and panic.
“We are living in constant fear. Our people were taken away in the dead of night, and we don’t know their fate,” one resident who requested anonymity said.
Adding further, the residents said as of Friday morning, military troops and vigilante members have mobilised and gone in search of those who were kidnapped by the bandits.
Meanwhile, as of the time of filing this report, there has been no statement by the state police command or the Zamfara government on the latest abduction by daredevil bandits.
