ADC dismisses concerns over Appeal Court ruling, says 2027 presidential ticket remains intact

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed concerns that a recent Court of Appeal judgment could jeopardise its 2027 presidential ticket, insisting that the ruling has no effect on its candidates.

The clarification follows reports that the Appeal Court restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognising congresses conducted by committees appointed by the party’s David Mark-led caretaker committee.

According to the party, the judgment relates only to congresses and does not invalidate its leadership or affect the nomination of candidates for the 2027 general election.

ADC explains Appeal Court ruling

Speaking on the development, former ADC National Chairman Ralph Nwosu said the court decision has no bearing on the party’s presidential primary or candidates.

Nwosu said, “I want to tell you that Atiku Abubakar’s and Rotimi Amaechi’s names have been successfully uploaded as our presidential and vice-presidential candidates. The names of all the National Assembly candidates have also been uploaded.”

He further stated, “There is no judgment so far other than the judgment reaffirming that the process that brought David Mark and the new NWC into being is correct. INEC has confirmed that, and a court of competent jurisdiction has also affirmed it.”

Party insists ticket remains valid

The ADC maintained that the David Mark-led National Working Committee remains legally recognised and that the Appeal Court ruling does not affect its internal leadership structure or electoral preparations.

The party’s position is expected to fuel further political debate as preparations for the 2027 general election gather momentum, with attention likely to remain on subsequent legal and electoral developments.
