A horrifying holiday gun attack left eight people shot — including four children — when gunfire erupted as they were out to watch 4th of July fireworks near the waterfront in Brooklyn, police and sources said.
The shots rang out at about 10:35 p.m. at 2930 W. 30th Street near Surf Ave in Coney Island, not far from the boardwalk where a fireworks display had been set for 9:45 p.m., police say.
Detectives and police swarmed the scene outside the Seapark Apartments, where the remnants of a barbecue could be seen. Shell casings were visible in the street.
“It’s so sad they won’t enjoy themselves without them killing each other. This building is always partying. I came home to have fun and now this. This buikding always has some trouble,” said a resident of the area who idenfied herself as Mackenzie.
The victims include a 33-year-old male and a 21-year-old female shot in the chest; a 25-year-old female, a 14-year-old male, a 12-year-old male, and a 7-year-old male shot in the legs or thigh; a 37-year-old male shot in the shoulder; and a 6-year-old male shot in the stomach.
Seven of the victims are in stable condition, while the 21-year-old female is in critical condition.
Mackenzie explained that the building is known for raucous activity.
“This building is always partying,” she said.
“I came home to have fun and now this? This building always has some trouble.”
All were transported to local hospitals.
Police have yet to release details on the suspects or a motive.
The incident remains under investigation.
